SHABBATON:
ON SHABBAT, Friday, August 24th
Friday Afternoon – Judaism and the Arts
6:30 PM – Shul on the Beach (Aug 24)
How does traditional practice view artistic expression and aesthetics?
How do we define Jewish art, and is there a difference between
Jewish art and conventional art? Rabbi Yonah Weinrib, a Judaic artist and
calligrapher for over 30 years explores Jewish art and the concept of
“This is my G-d, and I will exalt Him”.
Shabbat Morning – August 25th
Prospectives on Beauty- Perspectives on Life
9:00 AM – Shul on the Beach (Aug 25)
The world is filled with magnificent beauty, designed and created by the Master Artist. Yet, there is another, less attractive view of the world. Our perceptions color our interpersonal relationships, our relation with G-d, and how we look at ourselves. From his perspective as an artist, Rabbi Weinrib paints a portrait for Jewish living on the canvas of life.
Shabbat Afternoon -
Letters of Eternity- The Hebrew Alphabet
6:15 PM PJC Beis Midrash (Aug 25)
The letters of the Hebrew Aleph- Bet are so much more than forms to facilitate communication. They were the building blocks of creation, the foundation for the Mishkan, the Tabernacle, and contain messages and meaning in every stroke and each of their elements. They form the
basis of the holy language, lashon hakodesh, and share the wisdom and beauty of Jewish thought and practice. Rabbi Weinrib, a skilled Hebrew calligrapher, shares the vision of Judaism through letters of eternity.
SUNDAY, August 26th MORNING WORKSHOP:
8:45 AM (following 8:00 AM Shacharit) (Aug 26)
Rabbi Weinrib provides an informal “preview tour” of the art show.
