AN INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITY FOR ANY WOMAN INTERESTED IN CHILD-REARING; WHETHER SINGLE, MARRIED, WITH OR WITHOUT CHILDREN:
Rabbi Leib Kelemen, Author of To Kindle a Soul and translator of Planting and Building by Rabbi Shlomo Wolbe Z”TL will be teaching a monthly women’s Chinuch Shiur to study indepth Rav Shlomo Wolbe z”l’s classic text on Jewish pedagogy and parenting, Zriyah U’Binyan (Planting and Building). We will read together each line of the sefer, understanding the Chazal’s he cites and putting Rav Wolbe’s words from Zriyah U’Binyan back into the larger context of all his other writings.
The goal will be to master the general principles (klalim) that Rav Wolbe says should be used in determining our response to any educational challenge, with any child, at any age. By the course’s end, students should be competent to derive, on their own, the Torah approach to almost all parenting and classroom challenges. The course presents Rav Wolbe’s approach in Rav Wolbe’s words, and all prescriptions will be consistent with this gadol’s writings and shiurim. The course will be comprehensive and practical, and the educational approach will be appropriate for use with children, teens, and even adults of all ages. The course will be of special interest to parents, those working in education, and those hungry to understand Rav Wolbe’s educational system in detail. None of the individual sessions of the course are self-contained. Students who drop in and out of the course therefore will gain little. However, those who regularly attend throughout the months (or years) required to complete the sefer will gain tremendously.
To listen to the introductory shiur (recorded 4/24/07), please go to the following link: http://homepage.mac.com/raf622/Chinuch/iMovieTheater127.html
The course itself began April 15 (the video and audio is available online to those who sign up) and continues once a month on Tuesday’s 10:30AM (future dates: June 19, July 17, August 28, September 18, October 16, November 13 scheduled thus far) for at least a year. Those who participate must commit for the entire year. The shiur would be available only to those who are NOT currently involved in another LA chinuch shiur.
LOCATION: Jewish Learning Exchange (JLE) 512 N. La Brea
The cost of the shiur is $25 a month for LA Mussar Vaad members, and $30 a month for non Vaad members. For those who may not be able to attend a particular shiur, or who would like to review, the VIDEO and AUDIO will be posted on the internet and available for review. IT MAY BE SHARED WITH YOUR HUSBAND.
FOR MORE INFO AND TO SIGN UP FOR MONTHLY SHIUR (ONE YEAR COMMITMENT) PLEASE CALL: (310) 927-2146 Reuven Fauman, or raf622@mac.com
