November 27^th – Turkey Beis Medresh! (Thursday, National Legal Holiday)

Rabbi Avrohom Union will deliver a shiur for men, starting at 8:45am on Thursday morning, Nov. 27^th at Anshe Emes.  Topic is “Practical Halachic Laws of Avoda Zara.”

We are working on a women’s shiur on the same day.  Details will be coming soon!

B’Nos is a Shabbos afternoon program for girls run by Bias Yaakov students.   (Due to remodel, program will be at Aish).

Our own, Esther Schmidt-Pines is B’Nos head, for Pico- Robertson this year.   The Pico-Robertson branch of B’Nos will bat at Aish on Shabbos!  All girls in grades pre-1A to 7^th grade are invited to participate from 2:50 pm – 4:00 pm.  Come try out the activities, games, learning and refreshments.  No charge.  For more information or to sponsor a Shabbos, please contact Esther at (310) 838-4568.

In response to numerous inquires, please be advised that Fairfax Meat and Fish is no longer supervised by the RCC.

2^nd announcement: In a recent e-mail we informed you that “Fairfax Meat & Fish” is no longer under RCC certification. We hereby clarify that said establishment is known more accurately as: Fairfax Grocery (formerly: Sammy’s Makolet).(511 N. Fairfax Ave. Los Angeles, CA 90036) and they are no longer supervised by the RCC.

There is no association between above establishment and Fairfax Fishery, which continues to be certified by their certifying agency (Kehilla).

CHILDCARE IMPORTANT NOTICE
Because it is very difficult to find quality Jewish Staff who are willing to give up their spiritual time at shul to watch our children.
we are asking all parents who have children who attend childcare to give a one hour of their time  on Yom Kiippur day to help provide a safe program for our children.  Many shuls in Los Angeles have implemented a similar structure for the chagim this allows all parents the opportunity to have time to daven knowing their children are well cared for.  Please expect a phone call from our childcare director to put you into a time slot.  Childcare will run from 9:30 -1:30.  By working together we will all benefit.

Childcare for the High Holy-Days

Childcare this year for the High Holidays will take place at the shul from 9:15- 1:45. Although we’re under construction we are planning a very safe and clean childcare program for our children between the hours of 9:15 and 1:45.  The groups will be as they have been in the past for children ages 2.5-10 years old.

Groups

1. Toddlers:    2.5-5 years old
2. Girls:            6-10 years old
3. Boys:            6-10 years old

Our very special counselors  will start the programming with davening, learning and kiddush.  As the counselors have requested that they too, need time to daven in shul, we have arranged  for the program to be supervised by a trained and friendly staff of  caregivers who have a lot of experience with children. These caregivers will be on site for the entire duration of the childcare program for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. We continue our tradition of providing healthy snacks as in previous years. However if your child has special things they like to eat,  or special requirements, we would recommend that you provide for them. Please also notify childcare if your child has allergies to certain foods, we can  work with you to  avoid a reaction.

Goal and Mission: It is our philosophy that a child should be happy in childcare.  Therefore we  have created a respectful, happy and positive environment for your children. If a child is unhappy we try to help them adapt, we try to accommodate, to console but if a child is expressing that he truly needs his Mom or Dad then we will come and get you. We thank you for your understanding and we are always here to speak with you about any matters that you wish to discuss.  Ultimately, the way a child feels about shul will last a lifetime.  We hope that we can made  that feeling to be one of joy and happiness.

Playing Outside: Due to construction there will not be activities in the yard though there may be an opportunity to play in the Escovitz’s yard.  The children would go over there in walking groups let by their caregivers.  If you do not wish for your child to cross the street with the group and go and play outdoors there you must let childcare or their counselor know and we will leave them in your care before we go.

Safety; Childcare is a safe place for children to play and spend time with friends. Listening to the counselors is not just a way of showing Kavod but is necessary to keep your  child safe.  We would love your help in helping us explain ahead of time to your child that they  are expected to comply with the rules of the shul and must follow the caregiver, counselor or Director’s  rules and instructions.  Please remind them that chasing a friend, roughhousing, teasing or name calling, wrestling,  ball playing(even mini super balls), throwing paper airplanes , frisbees or pieces of chess, Othello etc. is not acceptable behavior in a shul. If a child is repeatedly unable to follow these guidelines then the responsibility of their supervision will be returned to their parents.

CHILDREN  MUST ALWAYS  BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT: All children must be accompanied by a parent at shul.  Children cannot be left in childcare while a parent goes home, to another shul for a shiur etc. This is for the safety and well being of the children.

Health Concerns: Any child who is not feeling well or who might have lice should not be brought to shul.  If a child appears to be ill , coughing, cold etc we will ask the parent to come and care for them outside of childcare to protect the other children from infection.

How long should my daughter or son stay in shul? This depends on your child.  We believe that 4.5 hours is a very long time for a child to stay in shul. It is a long time to expect them to behave properly.  For some children it is appropriate but not for others.   Though wonderful  supervision will be available we do ask that you consider what length of time is appropriate for your child.

Diapers: All diaper changes are done by the parents.

Bathroom Visits: Due to the construction the bathrooms are now located outside.  Because the bathrooms are outside we wish to ask parents to periodically check if their children need to use the facilities.  For their safety we do not want children to go alone to the yard.  We will do several excursions, however  it would be important for all parents especially of YOUNG CHILDREN to come and assist with these visits, if they are needed more often so that we can keep the supervision of the children at its peak.

Shmiras HaLasohon Shiur

Motzei Shabbos, September 27 (Shabbos before Rosh Hashana) – The Shmiras HaLashon, the mitzvah of proper speech, Shiur is presented by Rabbi Avrohom Stulberger, principal of Valley Torah High School and an expert on Shmiras Haloshon. The shiur will be held on Motzei Shabbos, September 27, at 9:00 p.m. at the Pines home, 9042 Larke Ellen Circle, Los Angeles. This shiur is given in memories of Chana Rochel bas Shaul, Miriam Schmidt-Pines’ mother, Leah Golda Bas Menachem Tzvi, Rabbi Stulberger’s mother, and Beilah Chayah Bas HaRav Shlomo Hershel, Eliyahu Pines’ mother. Everyone is welcome!

Due to the remodeling efforts for this week (in getting the temporary kitchen set up), there will be NO Kiddish or Seudah Shlishit in the shul this week.  Because of this, we have moved the Mussar Shiur and Mincha up 15 minutes earlier than the calendar to allow time for everyone to have Seudah Shlishit at home.

A Yasher Kochachem to all those who helped put everything away and get the shul clean for Shabbos last week!  We thank you VERY MUCH!

Membership Packets

Please get in to the shul ASAP if not sooner to reserve your Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur seats.

We need your membership packets by Monday to guarantee your seats for RH/YK this year.  Reservations will be closed by Monday.

Latest updates on the building remodeling:

• G-d willing, everyone should use the SIDE walkway (off of Robertson, not the back the of the shul).  We should hopefully have ANOTHER door off of the walkway that will go in to the social hall directly.
• We are making every effort to minimize the dust during construction, but there still might be a little dust throughout the shul.  If your child is allergic or sensitive to dust, please taking responsibility for your own child and act accordingly.
• Please leave strollers in the back yard of the shul when bringing them on Shabbos
• Restrooms for everyone are in the back yard.  These are NOT porta potties, but rather is in an EXECUTIVE VIP BATHROOM TRAILER.
• Childare programs is the same as last week.
• The kelim mikvah will be closed to the community during the construction at Anshe Emes.

If you are interested in learning Chumash in depth and sharing it with other women, this program is for you.  We pair up and learn Chumash Shemos pasuk by pasuk with Mefarshim.   English translations are provided. Now that we are officially underway (B”H), here’s a few logistical notes for the kehillah:

• We are very excited about the start of construction and the amazing progress so far this week.  A big YASHER KOACH to Myron Escowitz for the tremendous efforts to date!
• We are making every effort to minimize the dust during construction, but there still might be a little dust throughout the shul.  If your child is allergic or sensitive to dust, please taking responsibility for your own child and act accordingly.
• Access to the shul now is STRICTLY through the gate in the back of the shul (accessed via the alley).
• Please leave strollers in the back yard of the shul when bringing them on Shabbos
• Men’s entrance to the shul will be via the north wall (small alley way on the side of the shul).
• Women’s entrance to the shul will be via the door at the front of the women’s section via the back yard of the shul (where mikvah donations are currently deposited).  This could change in future weeks, but for the time being, this is the entrance for the women’s side.
• Restrooms for everyone are in the back yard.  These are NOT porta potties, but rather is in an EXECUTIVE VIP BATHROOM TRAILER.
• We are attempting to maintain our high standards for childcare.  We appreciate your cooperation during the construction to enable this. Childcare Notes for Shabbos
  • Older kids will be going to off site for outside play.
  • If you come AFTER 9:30am, YOU (parents) are responsible for your children through the duration of davening.
  • Toddlers will be staying at the shul in the Beis Medresh as before.

Looking for $$ Housekeepers to help for Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur

Dear Anshe Members and Friends,

Anshe Emes is looking for 3-4 housekeepers who will be able to work on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. Our wonderful counselors wish to daven and get closer to Hashem on those days so many are not available or only for a short time. We will have Jewish programing for a period of 1-2 hours with counselors, where davening, Parasha and holiday knowledge will be covered. For the initial game period, possible outdoor play and final game period we will need to have housekeepers who have functional English and are able to be responsible, dress somewhat tznius etc. I would like to ask of our community to allow Anshe to ‘borrow’ the services of your housekeeper for the following dates.

  • If you come AFTER 9:30am, YOU (parents) are responsible for take your children over to the new facility.
  • Toddlers will be staying at the shul in the Beis Medresh as before.
• The kelim mikvah will be closed to the community during the construction at Anshe Emes.
• TOLERANCE. This is an exciting time for Anshe Emes.  We’ve had an amazing amount of work done in the first day!!
